Tech Tip: What are Windows Updates and do I need them?

Windows Updates are software patches that close holes in your Windows Operating System (Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7).  These holes are open doors to viruses, spyware, and hackers in general.  Therefore, yes you need Windows Updates.  Most computers are setup to automatically receive updates.  Depending upon how your computer is setup, it may install by itself or it may display a globe or yellow shield at the bottom right of your screen in the task bar.
